Graveyard Baby Fox

Fox.jpg

In a small cemetery with grave markers more than two hundred years old life started again for a family of young foxes.

For whatever reason a mother fox chose to build a den under the old chapel. There, three kits were born, and they used the cemetery as a play area. Each day they would come out from  under the old chapel look around, and then as youngsters are prone to do, they began to go farther away from home to play.

They learned that the humans in the area, the grounds keepers and the visitors, were not a threat, and they began playing around and through the tombstones, and monuments of the past. To watch their antics was always a joy, as kits seem to be a cross between a cat and a dog. They have more agility than the average puppy and seem as curious as a cat. In fact some foxes can actually climb trees.

On this day this little kit had been running around with a sibling, and had paused to watch my young daughter as she approached. She stayed a safe distance away, and I have a wonderful photo of her and the fox in the same frame.

The foxes curious eyes, young face, and where it was raised, reminded me of the circle of life. I hope you stay young, curious and playful all your life.
